The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department has the pleasure of providing police services to the Town of Los Gatos and contractually to the City of Monte Sereno. The Department's vision is to accomplish three things: build a highly competent and professional Police Department, develop community relationships, and engage the community in problem solving. The Department is comprised of 64 sworn and civilian staff members, and over 150 community volunteers committed to providing the highest quality of service with a small town feel to residents, businesses, and visitors.THE POSITION
The Town of Los Gatos is accepting applications for an experienced Police Communication Dispatcher or an entry-level candidate with background in emergency services, law enforcement, courts or any other related field who has the desire to be trained and certified as a Police Communication Dispatcher.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Answer 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, and dispatch police units and other Town personnel.
- Use good judgment and clear thinking to assess and prioritize urgency of calls under stressful situations.
- Record, classify and maintain records of all communications.
- Prepare written documents and reports.
- Learn police code and statutes.
- Maintain effective and efficient radio communication with officers in the field and other law enforcement agencies.
- Enter, update and monitor information into computer terminals.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Communications Dispatcher (Entry Level)
- Completion of high school, GED or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of general office experience.
- Current or recent employment as an emergency dispatcher in a POST agency. Recent employment is defined as within two years AND Certificate of Graduation from the 120-hour California POST Dispatcher Academy.

- Completion of high school, GED and equivalent.
- Two (2) years of general office experience.
- Work or voluntary experience in an emergency response environment (e.g., hospital, EMT, fire, search and rescue, mobile command post operations, disaster response, etc.) is highly desirable.
