Under the direction of the Street Crew Leaders, employee performs duties related to the repair, construction and maintenance of City streets and roadways. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The purpose of the Equipment Operation II in the Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance section of the Houston Airport System is to support the goal of "Opening Day Fresh" by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective, efficient, and proactive maintenance. The Infrastructure Maintenance business unit ensures the airport maintains its annual operating certificate by performing key maintenance functions as mandated by Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139. Implementing a robust Pavement Management Program, Manage Landside and Airside Mowing Activities. Support the eco-structure of the Airport by Managing Ditch Maintenance and Erosion Programs using Best Management Practices, and other duties as assigned. The Equipment Operator II responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: • Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials and equipment. • Transports materials. • Cleans and services vehicles and equipment as assigned. • Operates heavy equipment. • Maintains a safe and clean work site. • Repairs and maintains facilities, structures and equipment. • May perform a series of manual activities, to include mowing, pouring concrete, asphalt, spraying, etc. • May occasionally supervises crews. • May assists in preparing reports and forms. WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments is required.
