Notes to Applicants The Austin Fire Department Prevention -Engineering Services is looking to fill one Plans Examiner B position. The position will work as a plans reviewer and will be assigned to work in coordination with the Development Service Department. The following additional job duties and responsibilities will apply: Review building permit plan submittals for a variety of proposed new construction projects for compliance with the Austin Fire Code. Fire protection related building permit review items include identifying required fire protection systems and features, protection features for the installation of hazardous materials systems, and mechanical smoke control systems. Assist Austin Fire Special Events group in reviewing temporary change of use and special event occupant load and egress plans. Be able to perform code compliance and analytical plans review on a wide variety of fire protection systems and features. Be able to conduct plans review and inspections to ensure compliance with the applicable codes, standards, and City ordinances related to the storage, handling, and use of hazardous materials. Be able to review computer modeling included as part of a plans submission to justify code compliance or equivalency and/or performance based code design. Participate in preliminary design meetings with design professionals concerning proposed technically complex building projects to identify required fire protection systems and features and discuss acceptable design options.
