Salary Information: Consistent with Section 6.28.140 of the County of Los Angeles County Code, persons holding the title of Helper, Electrical (Item 6349), who are assigned on a full-time basis in Sewer Maintenance Division, who are engaged in sewer maintenance duties shall be compensated at a rate of two salary schedules higher than otherwise noted ($3,125.00 - $3,872.00).

Consistent with Section 6.28.140 of the County of Los Angeles County Code, persons holding the title of Helper, Electrical (Item 6349), who are assigned on a full-time basis in Waterworks Division, engaged in drinking water treatment and distribution duties shall be compensated at a rate of four salary schedules higher than otherwise noted ($3,305.96 - $4,095.06).

Current employees in the unclassified service who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam: Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service;Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing or by the last day of filing.

NO OUT OF CLASS EXPERIENCEWILL BE ACCEPTED OR WITHHOLDS WILL BE ALLOWED.

Essential Job Functions
A Helper, Electrical performs semi-skilled work assisting journey or higher level electro-mechanics and is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions which are designated in the divisions indicated below:

OPERATIONAL SERVICES : Assists in installing conduit and wiring on residential, commercial, and industrial system and traffic signal control systems; patrols traffic signals to make minor replacement or repairs; traces malfunctions in electrical circuits and makes minor repairs to lighting fixtures, illuminated street name signs, and controls including ballasts and lamps; assists with fabrication of traffic signal equipment for installation in the field including standards and indications for vehicle and pedestrian movement; operates small power tools, hydraulic benders, hammer drills, power saws, and pneumatic tools such as jack hammers and tampers; operates vehicle-mounted man-lifts; maintains tools and equipment in serviceable condition;assists Traffic Signal Electrician, PW with emergency calls on weekends and/or after hours; as needed cleans work areas; drives automotive equipment to and from worksites, which may include combination truck units with trailers of 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight or more; maintains work and supply records; understands, operates, and maintains basic hand tools; andassist with repairs to street lights, associated equipment, highway safety lights, and traffic signal and street lighting standards as needed.

SEWER MAINTENANCE : Assists in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, overhauling and installing power, control, instrumentation and lighting for wastewater pumping and treatment facilities; assists in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, overhauling and installing electro-mechanic equipment in wastewater pumping and treatment facilities such as motors, pumps, compressors, blowers, mixers, valves, and related piping and appurtenances; performs routine inspection and maintenance and makes minor adjustments and repairs to facilities and equipment; cleans and maintains work area and facilities; maintains work records, supplies, safety equipment, tools, and equipment; drives automotive equipment to and from work sites, delivers portable electric generators to sites and assists in connecting generators to supply emergency power;work in small, dimly lit and wet confined spaces, and perform confined space entry procedures utilizing safety equipment such as: self contained breathing devices, safety harnesses with tripod, gas detector, and ventilation blowers as needed.

WATERWORKS :Troubleshoots, tests, and repairs/rewires control, power, and lighting circuits in potable water facilities such as water wells, reservoirs, pressure tanks, pumping plants and disinfection stations; works with and around water treatment chemicals; maintains work records and supplies; maintains vehicle tools and equipment; traces malfunctions in electrical circuits and performs minor repairs to equipment; changes out lighting fixtures; performs regular inspections, general maintenance,and repairs of water pumping stations, reservoirs, pressure regulating stations and chemical disinfection systems;work in small, dimly lit and wet confined spaces, and perform confined space entry procedures utilizing safety equipment such as: self contained breathing devices, safety harnesses with tripod, gas detector, and ventilation blowers;work at heights greater than six feet with proper training and personal protection equipment; and drives automotive equipmentto and from job sites.
Requirements
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
Current status as a Helper, Electrical (Temporary) in the service of the County of Los Angeles*.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

LICENSE INFORMATION
All successful applicants for this position will be subject to driving record verification before being appointed. Driver License must not be suspended, restricted or revoked. AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS FOUR (4)OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST TWO (2) YEARS WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.

Appointees may be required to provide automobiles and drive them in the County service at the rate of compensation allowed by the Board of Supervisors. Appointees who are required to drive their vehicles inCounty service MUST SHOW PROOF OF AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE THAT MEETS THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA REQUIREMENTS.

PHYSICAL CLASS
Physical Class IV - Arduous: Involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.

Some positions in this classification may be required to perform functions where passing periodic specialized medical examinations is required by law such as for respirator use or confined space.

Vision: Keen color perception.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
*To qualify, applicants who presently hold the position of Helper, Electrical (Temporary) must have completed at least 120 working days (960 hours) of satisfactory service with the County of Los Angeles as a Helper, Electrical (Temporary) according to Civil Service Rule 6.02(A2).
Additional Information

EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based on application information weighted 50% and an Appraisal of Promotability weighted 50%. The Appraisal of Promotability will evaluate such factors as knowledge and skills, personal and public relations, productivity, written and oral communication, adaptability and dependability.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted part of the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

Final results will be sent by U.S. postal mail. Test scores cannot be disclosed over the phone.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months following the date of promulgation.

Applications will be processed on an as received basis and promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE FOR THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY SIX (6) MONTHS.
