The Utilities Commission of the City of New Smyrna Beach (pop. 25,796; 37.92 sq. mi) located along the east coast of Florida and south of Daytona Beach in Volusia County is seeking applications from highly skilled candidates to serve as the Commission’s next General Manager/CEO.
Serving as the Utilities Commission’s highest ranking professional, the General Manager oversees the utility and its services including 176 full time employees, the $66.5 million fiscal year 2018 budget, the capital improvement expenditures totaling approximately $19.5 million with $2 million for wastewater system upgrades and $1.8 million for the construction of a new fleet maintenance facility. The General Manager is responsible for the operations and strategic decisions for the Commission; is a significant driver of innovation; is the manager and leadership of staff; is responsible for planning, analysis, and regulatory compliance; sometimes has direct, hands-on operations; and interacts with people outside of the organization as an advocate for the Commission.
Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in business, management, administration, or another related field is preferred and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the utility industry with progressively advanced management experience is required. The education and experience requirements expressed above do not prohibit the Commission from considering any combination of experience and education provided the candidate possesses the required competencies. A Florida driver's license Class E required as is the ability to work flexible hours, as required.
