The Position The City of Riverside is recruiting for a dynamic and experienced Utilities Senior Water Engineer to perform supervisory and/or professional water engineering work in the design, investigation and construction of water utility projects; and do related work as required within the Water Delivery division. There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Water Engineering Division and the eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months. Provide background information and documentation for management consideration on major projects and technical matters involving advanced engineering theories, concepts and principles. Perform complex studies of technical, environmental, and economic feasibility, engineering field studies, and related studies pertaining to proposed and existing system facility improvements. Plan own work and the work of others. Complete special projects that are frequently of long duration and complexity. Work with other engineering personnel with limited experience in an advisory or supervisory capacity. Make decisions independently on technical problems and methods related to the work being performed. Qualifications Option I: Education: A Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience: Four years of experience in professional water engineering work comparable to that of an Utilities Assistant / Utilities Associate Engineer in the City of Riverside. Option 2: Education: A Bachelor's degree in a closely related area from an accredited college or university. Experience: Five years of experience performing professional water utility or related engineering work comparable to that of an Utilities Assistant / Utilities Associate Engineer in the City of Riverside. Necessary Special Requirements Possession of an appropriate, valid class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Registered in California as a Professional Engineer. Highly Desired Qualifications: Registered in California as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a major in a closely related field; or 2. SELECTION PROCESS Examination Weight: Multiple-Choice Test - 100% The examination will consist entirely of a multiple-choice test administered and proctored on-line. In the on-line multiple-choice test, the following competencies may be evaluated; Judgment and Decision Making, Learning Ability, Mathematics, Fact Finding, Attention to Detail, Analytical Ability, Safety Focus, and Job Knowledge including knowledge of: electrical theory and concepts; use of nomograms; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Candidates invited to participate in the on-line multiple-choice test will be able to take the test from a remote location (i.e., their home) using a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection. All entry-level positions are temporary training positions as defined in Civil Service Commission Rule 5.30. All trainees must complete an intensive three-week evaluation period, a five-week classroom training period, and the first phase of on-the-job training within nine months. All trainees must complete the remaining phase of the on-the-job training and be assigned to a permanent position within twenty-one months. A Load Dispatcher may regularly work various shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime. Applications are accepted subject to review to ensure that minimum qualifications are met.
