Hernando County Clerk of Circuit Court and Comptroller

The Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court is a complex organization that performs a wide range of recordkeeping, information management and financial management for the Judicial system and County government. The Clerk of Circuit Court was established by the Florida Constitution as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. The Clerk performs over 900 different constitutional and statutory functions or duties and not only serves as the Clerk of the Circuit and County Court, but also the County Auditor, Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, Recorder and Ex-Officio Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners.  Some of the duties include:  auditing and custodian of all County funds; collector and distributor of statutory assessments; guardian of the public records, public funds and public property; processing Civil and Criminal Court matters including dissolution of marriage, domestic violence, felony, misdemeanor, juvenile, criminal traffic, small claims matters, and tenant evictions; recording and maintenance of Official Records’ processing marriage licenses and passport applications; internal audit functions; jury management; and maintaining Board of County Commissioners Minutes and records.
