    The Job

    This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX) or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.

    The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is recruiting for a Sheriff's Finance Officer to develop, manage and supervise, through subordinate supervisors, a major fiscal section of the Sheriff’s Bureau of Administration. The Sheriff’s Finance Officer is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating staff engaged in budget preparation, implementation, and reporting; conducting fee, rate, and special cost studies; grants management; monitoring financing sources; and preparing a variety of financial and statistical reports. In addition, this position will be responsible for oversight of law enforcement contract city costing and budget.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS
    • 3% Annual Across the Board Salary Increases in February 2026 & Bi-annual step increases of 2.5% up to Step 16
    • The County also offers an alternative Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides a wage differential of 4% above the base salary rate with a complementing modified leaves package and benefits.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background: Because this position is located in the Sheriff's Department, applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Prior to appointment, candidates will be fingerprinted and must successfully pass a full background investigation which includes a polygraph.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education: Bachelor's degree in public/business administration, accounting, finance, or closely related field.

    -AND-

    Experience: Three (3) years of professional-level administrative experience with primary responsibility for performing budgetary oversight AND conducting complex organizational and financial analysis of programs and/or business operations.

    • Applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered.
    • Professional-level experience is defined as occupations that require specialized knowledge usually acquired through principal work experience. Clerical experience is not considered qualifying.


    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have extensive governmental budgeting and finance experience along with the ability to understand and apply complex policies and procedures. Supervisory and experience in cost accounting and managing multiple funding streams is desired.
