    What You'll Be Doing

    Economic Services is one of the six function areas within the Social Services Division of the Wake County Department of Social Services. The main responsibility of this area is to provide benefits such as Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, and Energy Services for the citizens of Wake County as accurately and as timely as possible. Team Wake is seeking a Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) Supervisor that brings with them leadership skills and strong FNS policy knowledge and experience.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Supervise and direct eligibility caseworkers who determine eligibility for Food & Nutrition Services.
    • Ensure benefits are issued accurately and on time in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Set team and individual goals, review casework, recruit & train staff.
    • Interpret policy for staff or request state clarification when necessary.
    • Monitor employee casework regularly to maintain accuracy and compliance.
    • Provide training on policy updates and assist with client concerns and public inquiries.
    • Plan and set direction to meet program and agency outcomes.
    • Partner with the senior case manager to coach staff and resolve issues.
    • Ensure all federal, state, and county deadlines are met and that benefits are distributed correctly and promptly.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Three years of job-related experience
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • One (1) year of supervisory experience, or two (2) years as a team lead, or three (3) years as a Caseworker.
    • Two (2) years of experience in one or more programs: Food & Nutrition Services, Medicaid, Energy, Childcare Subsidy, or Work First.


    How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

    • Intermediate or higher skill level in Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office, NC FAST, and electronic document management systems.
    • Knowledge of customer service principles, including needs assessment and service evaluation.
    • Ability to apply complex policy to determine client eligibility and monitor determinations.
    • Experience training, motivating, and developing staff to improve performance.
    • Ability to assess and improve performance of self and others.
    • Skilled in providing feedback and guidance to strengthen knowledge and skills.
    • Dependable in meeting deadlines and completing assigned projects.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present information clearly.
    • Ability to foster a respectful, accountable, and communicative work environment.
    • Knowledge of Food & Nutrition Services policy.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

    Hiring Range: 26.54 - 34.06

    Market Range: 26.54 - 41.59

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
