    What You'll Be Doing

    Are you an IT professional who wants to make a direct impact on democracy? As our Voting Systems Administrator, you’ll help ensure Wake County’s elections are accurate, secure and efficient. You’ll work at the intersection of technology and public service - designing official ballots, programming voting systems and maintaining the technology that keeps elections running smoothly.

    What will you do as a Board of Elections Voting Systems Administrator?
    • Program election contests and candidates and design official ballots in compliance with legal requirements, using systems such as Electionware and SEIMS
    • Configure, test, secure, and deploy voting equipment - including ES&S DS200 and DS850 digital scan tabulators, ExpressVote ballot marking devices, and laptops before each election
    • Tabulate, audit and report election results using certified election software and established procedures
    • Maintain, troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on voting hardware, election laptops and related equipment
    • Develop and manage databases (e.g., Microsoft Access) and create business intelligence tools with Microsoft Power BI
    • Implement and support cybersecurity best practices in alignment with MS-ISAC and EI-ISAC guidelines
    • Train seasonal and temporary staff to operate voting technology and support election sites
    • Provide support to staff and volunteers using voting equipment devices


    About Our Team

    The Wake County Board of Elections is responsible for conducting all elections held in Wake County. The Board locally administers State election laws. Principal functions include establishing election precincts and voting sites; appointing and training Precinct Officials; preparing and distributing ballots and voting equipment; canvassing and certifying the ballots cast in elections and investigating any voting irregularities. It maintains voter registration and participation records and provides public information on voters and elections. This position is in-person and will work at the Board of Elections Operations Center.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field
    • Three years of experience in information systems support
    • Five years of experience in information systems support may be substituted for the combined education and experience requirements
    • Valid Driver’s License and “safe” driving record
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Experience working in a county elections office
    • A valid driver’s license
    • Clear financial and criminal records check

    • Ability to obtain a Voting Equipment Certification from ES&S within six months of hire
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into useful reports and visuals
    • Knowledge and understanding of data management policies and practices

    Market Range: 70,052.00 - 119,085.00
