DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under the guidance of the City Auditor or designee, the Assistant City Auditor III conducts and documents moderately complex operating systems and accounting procedures. Evaluates findings and assists in preparation of audit reports. This role involves moderately complex work that requires interpreting technical guidelines and policies. The position operates under limited supervision, with the supervisor playing a substantial role in setting objectives and organizing work.
The Assistant City Auditor III duties will include but are not limited to:- Audits operating systems and/or accounting procedures to verify the existence, the thoroughness and the compliance with internal controls.
- Collects, analyzes, interprets and summarizes moderately complex information, accounting procedures and operating systems; documents audit exceptions.
- Prepares audit working papers; evaluates findings and formulates recommendations for changes and/or improvements; drafts audit reports.
- Prepares and/or revises audit programs and methodology, including sample size, depth of analysis, and investigative extent and processes.
- Provides guidance and training for new audit employees.
- Assists with various projects as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Political Science, or Public Administration from an accredited college or university.
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four (4) years of professional audit-related experience is required.

PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants that can conduct in-depth analyses of city operations across various departments to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) preferred. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with a track record of working with department heads to map and assess key operational processes, focusing on aligning them with budgetary constraints and organizational goals. An ideal candidate will be able to evaluate operational performance and make recommendations to enhance service delivery while optimizing resource utilization.
Applicants with demonstrated strengths in the following areas will be given preference.
- Auditing: Evaluating operating systems and accounting procedures to verify their existence, thoroughness, and adherence to internal controls.
- Data Analysis: Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing moderately complex information to identify audit exceptions.
- Documentation: Preparing audit working papers, documenting audit exceptions, and drafting audit reports.
- Recommendations: Formulating recommendations for changes or improvements based on audit findings.
- Audit Program Development: Preparing and/or revising audit programs and methodologies, including determining sample sizes and the extent of analysis required.
- Training: Providing guidance and training for new audit employees.
