The City of Santa Fe Springs seeks applicants for the position of
Community Services Program Leader II . This is an hourly, at-will, non-benefited position with approximately 20-25 hours per weekend a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Family and Human Services (FHS) Division: The Family and Human Services Division of the Community Services Department is responsible for the development, implementation, and planning of Older Adults Services, Family services, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, Legal Services Program, facility rentals and special events.
POSITION PURPOSE: Under general supervision of the Community Services Director, Division Director, Supervisor, Coordinator, Specialist or Program Leader III, the Community Services Program Leader II organizes, promotes, leads, instructs, and conducts a variety of programs, projects, functions and events in the Community Services Department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is the journey level position within the series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the level I by the performance of the more complex and specialized duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives direct supervision from Community Services Director, Division Manager, Supervisor, Coordinator, Specialist or Program Leader III.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

B. Essential Job Specific Duties: 1. Plans, develops, conducts and oversees a wide variety of activities for children, teens, adults and older adults/seniors including sports, contests, tournaments, games, arts & crafts, day camps, special events and programs.
2. Assists with facility rentals, oversee and provide coverage to a variety of community services facilities which includes parks; set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment, for classes, activities, events and meetings.
3. Assists in maintaining and cleaning facilities and/or parks.
4. Assists with general office duties, including basic cashiering, answering phones, greeting patrons, typing, data entry, coping and filing.
5. Assists in planning recreational activities and events.
C. Other Job Specific Duties: 1. Assists with facility reservations, including phone and front counter contact, registering patrons for classes and programs, processing receipts and record keeping.
2. Assists with coaching/instructing the basic and fundamental skills of football, basketball, volleyball and soccer.
3. Assists patrons and other Community Services Department staff in routine and emergency situations including administering first aid.
4. Attends staff meetings, trainings and workshops.
5. Adhere to City and departmental policies and procedures.
6. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Ability to:Exercise good judgment and problem solving skills; develop and maintain effective working relationships and tact, courtesy, alertness in responding to internal and external customers; operate modern office equipment including computer equipment software programs, and audio visual equipment; lead and instruct children, youth and adults in a variety of recreational activities; follow written and oral instructions; communicate clearly and effectively with program participants, community groups, the public, City officials and staff; work with accuracy and attention to detail; effectively organize and prioritize assigned work; lift up to 45 lbs.; work indoors and outdoors; work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The following requirements generally demonstrate possession of the minimum requisite knowledge and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position. A typical way to obtain these would be:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent is required and completed college coursework is desirable, preferably in the areas of Communications, Education and Recreation, Physical Education or related field.
- One (1) year of recreation support experience is required; Directly related community services, recreation experience or education is highly desirable.
- Experience in customer service required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: - Possession of a valid California Driver's is required.
- Possession of CPR, AED, and First Aid Certificates are required.
- A valid State of California driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
