    The Position

    Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

    The Division of Environmental Protection Administration is seeking to fill an Environmental Scientist 3 (ES3) located in Carson City. This position will travel to rural mines around the state. This Environmental Scientist 3 will be within the Hydrology Branch of the Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation, Regulation and Closure Program. The incumbent will be responsible for performing administrative and technical reviews of Site Characterization Reports and Predictive Modeling Results for Designated Mining Facilities. The ES3 will assist permit writers with the drafting of water pollution control permits and associated documentation in relation to the technical review findings. They will conduct site visits of assigned mining facilities, as warranted, to determine validity of the submitted and approved studies, predictive models, the individual permit, and statutory and regulatory program requirements. The ES3 evaluates compliance status based upon field observations and monitoring results. This position provides technical assistance and documentation regarding permitting actions and assist in developing enforcement or remedial actions. They will also assist the Closure Branch, Regulation Branch, and Reclamation Branch staff with the review and approval of long-term management, closure strategies. and assess the necessity and scope of additional financial assurances. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements This position has a 25% travel requirement. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
