    DESCRIPTION

    The Technology & Innovation Department (TID) has an immediate opening for a part-time, unclassified Communications Intern (Non-Career) in the Business Operations Bureau. The position will support the Department’s Public Affairs Assistant with TID communications work, including updating websites, blog writing, graphic design, and social media posts/reels.

    The Technology & Innovation Department (TID) plans and develops the technology infrastructure for the City and provides a centralized resource for technology deployment and support throughout the City. The Department integrates people, processes, and technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of City services through the work of its 203 FTEs while operating on a FY 2025 annual operating budget of nearly $88 million TID is organized into five bureaus: Business Operations, Digital Services, Enterprise Information Services, Infrastructure Services, and Technology Engagement & Support. The Department also manages LBTV, a production studio that develops custom programming and distributes City multimedia content via its broadcast TV station and social media platforms.     Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1600 work hours over 12 months and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. Non-career employees are not typically eligible for health/dental/vision benefits; however, may be eligible for sick leave benefits.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Assists with development and design graphics for press releases, social media postings, and departmental website, etc.;
    • Compiles information from various sources and presents to stakeholders in a clear and concise report/oral presentation; and;
    • Writes and edits copy for quarterly newsletters, blog posts and other publications;
    • Produces coordinated graphic design for events and programs including flyers, posters, signs;
    • Creates graphics for special projects, maps, displays, certificates, signs, flyers, and brochures;
    • May staff public information booths and make presentations to community groups;
    • May assist with the creation of written marketing plans and other publicity strategies and perform other duties as required;
    • Performs other related duties as required


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    • Currently standing as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program with a major in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, Geography, Urban Studies, Information Technology, Software Development, Computer Science, or related degree focus, from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required) OR
    • Recently graduated from an undergraduate program (within one year of application submission) from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required).

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Knowledge of media and usage requirements, including drafting, creation of graphic art materials, copywriting and art direction;
    • Proficiency with graphic design software, such as CANVA, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop or similar.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
    • Ability to write, edit, and copy publications and promotional materials;
    • Ability to write and edit employee and community newsletters
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and duties to meet deadlines.
    • Experience designing graphics for press releases social media postings, and /or websites.
    • Experience creating reels and video editing.
    • Experience writing blog posts and updating websites.
    • Experience in preparing detailed and comprehensive reports.

    SUCCESSFUL CANIDATES WILL DEMONSTREATE
    • Ability to research, organize, and analyze data from a variety of sources and draft reports, presentations and blog posts.
    • Ability to exercise initiative to complete assigned tasks.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and inwriting.
    • Ability to exercise tact, judgement, and patience in assisting City staff and outside agencies.
