    The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness , and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance abuse.     The Department of Consumer and Business Affairs Office of Labor Equity Bureau, Wage Enforcement Division is seeking qualified candidates to fill a permanent emergency Consumer and Business Affairs Supervisor vacancy related to the homelessness crisis.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet all the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    During your initial work period , you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Consumer and Business Affairs Supervisor.


    Essential Job Functions

    The Consumer and Business Affairs Supervisor will be responsible for includes but not limited to:

    Assists higher level staff in formulating and developing plans, policies and projects concerning a specialized consumer related services program.

    Assists in the recruitment and hiring of subordinate staff for specialized consumer related service programs.

    Plans, evaluates and directs the work of the staff supervised.

    Supervises the delivery of consumer services to the public.

    Participates in the resolution of complex and sensitive consumer related service matters.

    Supervises the referral of complaints and correspondence to other agencies.

    Develops and maintains liaison with various agencies and organizations, including County departments, local, State and Federal agencies, community agencies, and other concerned parties, both public and private.

    Carries out special studies and projects related to the delivery of services to the public on consumer related service matters and specialized consumer protection programs.

    Develops programs and materials for the training of staff and volunteers and conducts classes for the public and others on consumer related service matters.

    Represents the department at major speaking engagements in matters concerning consumer related service matters.

    Acts for the Chief Consumer Affairs Representative in the latter's absence.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    OPTION 1

    One year of experience in the County of Los Angeles as a Consumer Affairs Representative III.

    OPTION 2

    Four years of paid or unpaid experience assisting the public in connection with consumer complaints, court procedures, dispute settlement or mediation issues. One year of the required experience must have involved the supervision of others engaged in such work.

    You MUST meet one of the above requirement(s) in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.

    NO OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS EXAMINATION.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:

    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
