LEARN MORE HERE. The PositionThis recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy for the position of Supervising Legal Secretary at the Office of the Public Defender for Napa County. The eligibility list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year.About the Position: The Public Defender's Office at Napa County is seeking a Supervising Legal Secretary to become an integral part of a close-knit team. The Office of the Public Defender provides legal representation for adults and juveniles who are charged with criminal offenses and otherwise unable to afford counsel. The Supervising Legal Secretary at the Public Defender's Office w ill exercise full first-line supervisory responsibility over the Legal Secretaries and will perform complex legal processing duties. The Supervising Legal Secretary will plan, organize, assign, direct, and review the work of Legal Secretary staff, will perform highly responsible administrative, secretarial, and clerical work for the Public Defender and Attorney staff, and is expected to apply extensive knowledge and abilities in the preparation and processing of legal documents.

Position Requirements: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
- Experience : Four years of significant, directly related and progressive legal clerical or secretarial experience, preferably to include some supervisory experience.
- Education : Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized legal clerical training.
- License or Certificate:* Certain positions assigned to this class may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
