CALIFORNIANSFORALL PROGRAM FELLOW to work in the Public Works - Wastewater Division. T he mission of the Public Works Department is to provide and enhance the quality of life for City residents and businesses. The Wastewater Division plays a crucial role in public health by preventing pollution and protecting water resources.
The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months but may be extended.

CaliforniansForAll Workforce Development Grant (“Grant”), which is part of California Volunteers, responsible for engaging Californians in service, volunteering, and civic action to tackle the State’s most pressing challenges and lift-up all communities. This exciting entry-level opportunity is all about increasing youth employment, developing youth interest in and experience towards a career. As a CaliforniansForAll Program Fellow, you'll have an opportunity to dive into a diverse range of administrative/technical tasks to address key areas of climate, food insecurity, and local COVID-19 recovery within a specific department. , click here. Work Performed may include, but are not limited to, the following: - Greet and direct septic haulers to the proper discharge area.
- Inspect incoming loads for proper documentation and confirming hauler permits are valid.
- Monitor and operate septic receiving station equipment (screens, pumps, meters, etc.).
- Record volumes, hauler details, time of discharge, and other required data for tracking and billing.
- Collect and submit samples for lab analysis as required.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with discharge standards.
- Report any non-compliant loads or suspicious activity to supervisors.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the discharge area and related equipment.
- Assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs of equipment.
- Maintain logs, reports, and database entries accurately and timely.
- Provide excellent customer service to haulers and other external partners.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).
Experience: None.
Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Highly Desirable Qualifications: - Ability to:
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Operate equipment and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Communicate effectively with the public and coworkers.
- Identify safety hazards and respond appropriately
- Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to wastewater and odors.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- May involve lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for long periods, and operating mechanical equipment.
Note: While we encourage all interested candidates to apply, the CAForAll Youth Workforce Development Grant requires that 75% of all hires through the program meet 2 or more of the eligibility requirements listed above. Candidates who do not meet all eligibility requirements are still welcome to apply, but their application may not be eligible for the grant funding.

Employees may be eligible for CalPERS membership upon hire if they are already a CalPERS member, Tier designation is based on membership date.
