POSITION SUMMARYThe City's Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Recreation Program Supervisor for Citywide Youth Sports Supervision and Park Operations Management that will be located at Holiday Park.
Supervises the operation and direction of an overall special program unit, park, or recreation center, and may manage the maintenance of one or multiple municipal facilities. Directs and contributes to the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of specialized recreation programs, activities, events; including recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation of personnel, contracted service providers
This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Federation of Public Employees and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Federation of Public Employees.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Reviews and prepares general recreation program policy recommendations; prepares recreation program recommendations and implements program
- Prepares press releases and news articles for community papers; prepares agendas and presentations for community meetings
- Oversees marketing plan for activities, events, and programs
- Provides staff oversight; ensures all staff members are in compliance with City of Fort Lauderdale policies and procedures; facilitates regularly scheduled team meeting
- Oversee aesthetics and daily maintenance of facility and grounds; submits work orders as required.
- Supervises programs, events, and recreation services; oversees and coordinates event logistics and operations
- Plans, assigns and supervises the duties of subordinate personnel including contracted vendors.
- Ensures equipment and supplies are provided for various activities
- Coordinates periodic safety inspections and maintenance of facilities and grounds
- Prepares daily, weekly and seasonal schedules of events and activities; plans, organizes and coordinates special programming such as sports tournaments and holiday events and supervises designated staff
- Oversees and verifies payroll
- Serves as advisor for groups formed to participate in a particular type of activity; instructs members of the department staff and volunteer leaders
- Prepare and submit service agreements, contracts, and program proposals
- Compiles statistical data and prepares reports on attendance, facility use and budgeted expenditures; prepares and monitors annual operating budget
- Recruit and train, and hire employees
- Appraises work of subordinate employees and contract service providers
- Participates in subordinate grievance proceedings
- Responds to complaints, concerns, or grievances made by the general public
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENTGraduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or closely related field. Possession of a graduate degree in Recreation Administration may be substituted for one (1) year of required experience.Three (3) to five (5) years of experience supervising recreation programs and staff. Previous supervisory experience required. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
