Examples of Duties - Conceptualizes, designs, refines, and produces creative work and documents for Metro's internal and external clients
- Designs customer-facing information to enhance the customer experience
- Designs marketing materials to educate and increase awareness of Metro and its assets; assists in the development of marketing strategies and ideas
- Investigates and resolves design problems by researching data in order to find the best possible solutions
- Prepares visual presentations using a variety of software
- Collaborates with clients to refine project objectives and to determine how best to accomplish within time and budgetary constraints
- Creates illustrations from photographs, sketches, blueprints, and verbal instructions and ideas
- Oversees consultants in the creation of illustration or photography, including selection of models, locations, lighting, layout, and props
- Assists with photoshoots to ensure the project vision is being executed properly
- Prepares approved artwork for printing by assembling finished comps, creating printable PDF (Portable Document Format) files, specifying print instructions, and reviewing and approving printer's proofs and printed product at press checks
- Prepares approved artwork for online/screen/mobile viewing in appropriate sizes and digital file types
- Tracks projects' progress and compiles photocopied or digital records of revisions
- Works closely with Production Manager to make sure deadlines are met
- Keeps up to date on creative and technological developments in the field
- Trains and provides design direction to interns; oversees their work on specific projects
- Develops style guides for external partners
- Directs the work of outside designers, illustrators, photographers, and other vendors

Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Environmental Design, Advertising, or related field
Experience- One year of relevant experience in graphic design, interaction design, environmental design, or advertising and production; outstanding professional portfolio is preferred
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
- Occasional use of graphic equipment such as knives and paper-cutters
Preferred Qualifications

- Appropriate applications of computer color designations, including Pantone Matching System, 4-Color Process, and Red Green Blue
- Basic math as it relates to proportions, perspective, and type specification
- Reproduction of black and white and color photography
- Translating artwork into large outdoor and three-dimensional formats
- Specialty item production processes, including such as silk screening, embroidery, and cloisonné
- Organizational, writing, and visual /verbal presentation skills
- Applicable hardware and related software programs for marketing, communications, web, and desktop publishing tools
- Various file formats and when to use each, file compression, and file and asset management, including backup systems
