    The Position

    Public Health Rating and Survey Officers work under administrative direction and are responsible for the survey and evaluation of food storage, preparation and serving practices and procedures to determine compliance with United States Food and Drug Administration and Nevada laws, regulations and standards; regulate and enforce State law relating to: the Safe Drinking Water Program in Nevada; drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, and public institutions; perform as an authorized agent of the Food and Drug Commission as required. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    The Division of Public & Behavioral Health, Environmental Health Section (EHS); is recruiting for a Public Health Rating & Survey Officer, located in Reno. Under the direct supervision of the EHS Program Manager, this position will survey and evaluate EHS permitted establishments and state and local environmental health specialists for compliance with statutory requirements. This position will act as the training coordinator for the retail food program. Training covers environmental health inspections in food establishments, investigation of foodborne illness and critical incident follow-up. The incumbent will assist with the revision or development of regulations and policies. EHS functions include permitting, management, education, enforcement, consultation, and emergency response to prevent and mitigate environmental health hazards and to promote & protect the public health and the environment. Represent the Food and Drug Commissioner in emergencies involving food by accepting call back response; visit the site and evaluate the immediate public health danger; issue directives to protect persons at the site; inspect the food products, and quarantine or condemn food as required. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Licensure as an Environmental Health Specialist and four years of professional experience performing environmental health related duties for a regulatory agency or other relevant environmental health work experience; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Health Specialist III in Nevada State service. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
