    Requirements

    MOS CODES: None

    Education and Experience : Associate’s Degree or higher in Business or Public Administration, Human Services, social/behavioral sciences or related field and one (1) year of volunteer experience in an animal shelter environment or two (2) years of program operations experience.

    Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.

    General Purpose

    Under general supervision, recruit, train, and oversee the El Paso Animal Services volunteer base to support the department’s lifesaving programing.

    Typical Duties

    Plan, direct and implement departmental volunteer programs. Involves: Design and implement volunteer recruiting campaigns. Develop program goals and objectives. Develop and implement policies and procedures for programs. Recruit, train and place volunteers participating in program. Consult with others in department to determine where volunteer staffing is needed. Develop volunteer stations and provide technical assistance. Present pre-service and monthly in-service volunteer training. Plan and implement volunteer recognition programs. Administer the volunteer record management system.

    Represent the department and provide technical support, information and guidance on volunteer program functions and issues. Involves: Develop and provide interpretation of policies. Assist in the preparation of the volunteer program budget. Prepare comprehensive documents on volunteer programs and functions, special reports and recommendations. Serve as liaison to community organizations, businesses and media to publicize program. Assist the department and marketing and public engagement program with other duties as assigned.

    Supervise assigned personnel and volunteers. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
