*Subject to Change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Assist the Director in the execution of the Mayor’s Civic Celebration Program, including promotion of the performing and visual arts.
- Assist the Director in the oversight of all facets of the Mayor’s Civic Celebration Program. Knowledge of the Department’s overall operational activities and processes, including application processing, permitting, calendar maintenance, interdepartmental coordination, and statistical reporting within established rules, regulations and procedures.
- Oversee and manage the department’s sponsorship development program, marketing and publicity for all events. Reviewing, evaluating and negotiating proposals for sponsorships and agreements with the private sector that are beneficial to the City.
- Identify and facilitate new opportunities and funding sources to encourage, promote and execute the Mayor’s Civic Celebration Program.
- Identify and negotiate cash and in-kind sponsorships and media partners for special events.
- Pursue event marketing and public relations opportunities beneficial to the City.
- Assist in developing and implementing policy and procedures related to special events as required by City Code.
- Assist in Board of Directors relations with Houston Civic Events, Inc. non-profit and local government corporation.
- Train sponsorship and marketing staff and other event staff as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate sponsorship activities, including: technical and creative writing of sponsorship proposals to fund a variety of special events and activities for the office; identify and meet with potential sponsors to present sponsorship packages; budgeting and researching for the office about event sponsorship.
- Write and develop systems for sponsor recaps as necessary for a variety of events.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations to the Director regarding requests for co-sponsorships.
- Coordinate the preparation, implementation and monitoring of various sponsored event budgets and expenditures.
- Identify and facilitate opportunities to market and promote the City of Houston programs and services through events held in public spaces.
- Develop and review proposed contracts and letters of agreement. Assist in researching, developing and implementing City Code related to special events.
- Assist in developing and implementing policy and procedures related to special events as required by City Code.
- Represent the Director and the office and act as liaison to other departments, government agencies and private sector organizations
WORKING CONDITIONS Requires lifting of moderately heavy items weighing up to 40 pounds. May experience long periods of walking and standing on rough surfaces. May be exposed to various weather conditions on outside assignments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering or a field closely related to activities of the division.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT Seven years of progressive professional experience closely related to the activities of the division are required, with at least three of the years in a supervisory capacity.
A Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a field closely related to the activities of the division may be substituted for two years of experience.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
