    The Position

    Wildlife Area Supervisors manage one or more Wildlife Management Areas by planning, budgeting, supervising, and performing maintenance and development activities to provide for an efficient operation and preserve wildlife resources and associated habitat.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    This Wildlife Area Supervisor 1 position oversees the conservation and management of the Carson Lake Wildlife Management Area, Humboldt Wildlife Management Area and Fernley Wildlife Management Area. This position is responsible for the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment, surveying wildlife populations, performing and engaging with hunters at check stations as well as in the field, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and maintaining public use facilities as well as engaging with various government and non-government agencies. Incumbent will ensure effective execution of habitat and wildlife management plans; develop and maintain budgets for Carson Lake WMA, Humboldt WMA and Fernley WMA, participate in land and water right acquisitions processes, engage in discussions on water rights, land issues and grazing leases related to NDOW's interests. Engage in collaboration with various government and non-government agencies, CAB's and other organizations on wildlife-related issues.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and two years of experience such as establishing and maintaining quality wildlife habitats to meet the needs of a variety of wildlife species; operating equipment to maintain suitable habitats for wildlife; conducting surveys and inventory of wildlife and associated habitats; netting, trapping and banding of wildlife; and providing for security of wildlife management areas. One year of the above experience must have been in a leadworker capacity; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in wildlife management such as installing and maintaining wildlife structures; operating equipment to maintain suitable habitats for wildlife; conducting surveys and inventory of wildlife and associated habitat; netting, trapping and banding of wildlife; and providing for security of wildlife management areas; one year of the above experience must have been in a leadworker capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Wildlife Area Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commerical driver's license with tanker endorsement and air brake certification within six months of appointment. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. As a condition of employment, pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
