The Position

Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

This is an IT Technician 1 position being recruited to underfill an IT Technician 3 position within the Governor's Office of the CIO (OCIO), Facility Operations team. This is an onsite position located in Carson City. Primary duties for the incumbent include monitoring multiple computing technology platforms including Windows and Linux Server OS Virtual Machines, IBM mainframe (z/OS), modifying z/OS and Linux/UNIX job schedules, making basic code changes to batch jobs, printing large batches of duplex printed output, monitoring all equipment housed within the OCIO Computer Facility, and notifying the Server, Mainframe, UNIX, Network, and Mechanical sections along with other State of Nevada agencies of software and hardware failures. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician Trainee in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Some positions require an applicant to undergo a background investigation prior to appointment. These positions will be identified at the time of recruitment. Education above the high school level may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits equals six months of the required experience up to a maximum of one year of the required experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position is subject to call-out or call-back. Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
