    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation with an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to Business Administration, Public Administration, Aviation Management, or a related field,
      OR
    • Two (2) years of experience in the U.S. Military Services, airport operations, or another airport related field.
      OR
    • Any combination of education and work experience may substitute for the above minimum qualifications.
    • Any of the above, plus two (2) years of experience conducting direct secured area entrance activities as an authorized security representative of an airport operator with a complete airport security program as described in C.F.R. 49 1542.103.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Must be able to obtain AAAE Ace Security Certification or Airport Security Coordinator Certification within sixty (60) days of hire.
    • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    This position serves as a trainer and performance evaluator for new personnel, develops and oversees daily schedules of Airport Agents, ensures staffed post have adequate supplies and serves as liaison between COA security personnel and Federal representatives of TSA .
    Also performs Airport Agent Duties including carrying out day-to-day Federally mandated security tasks of an airport operator.

    In addition this position is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the traveling public, external and internal customers at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Recognize and respond to violations of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.
    Respond to emergencies, makes decisions and coordinates emergency activities, and implements emergency plans.

    Write technical reports.

    Works with federal agencies, and airport tenants as required ensuring the safety, security and efficiency of airport operations.

    Answer emergency and non-emergency phone calls.

    Provide customer service to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and City of Austin Employees, other governmental agencies and tenants by performing duties such as providing information using communication devices.

    Record data to appropriate forms/logs.

    Search for data on multi-application computer systems Operate/monitor multi-channel radio, audio/video, multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional paging systems.

    Coordinate the opening and closing of the airport (or portions of it) based upon airport conditions, safety factors and emergencies.

    Coordinate investigations with other entities and Department of Aviation.

    ASSESSMENT

    A skills assessment will be required for this position.

    DRIVING REQUIREMENT

    This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA .

    This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City’s Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

    Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.

    SHIFT INCENTIVE

    Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.

    ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

    This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

    VETERAN

    Veteran candidates will be required to provide a copy of their DD214 at the time of interview.

    CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORDS CHECK

    The top candidate will be subject to a minimum 10 year criminal background check and security threat assessment.

    GOOD STANDING - DEPARTMENT / DIVISION EMPLOYEES

    Employees, in good standing, who are candidates within the department/division that the position resides in and who meet the minimum and preferred qualifications (if any) of the position will be included in the initial interview.     OVERTIME

    Overtime may be required with or without notice.

    WORK HOURS

    Shift may change according to departmental needs; work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work.
    Current shift hours are 0500-1500, 1230-2230, or 2100-0700 and will rotate every 3-6 months or as deemed necessary to provide adequate coverage.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Conducts overt and covert inspections, and audits security practices and procedures. Conducts site vulnerability and physical security penetration tests and develops counter measures. Coordinates with TSA on required audits. Conducts internal and external testing of security measures. Performs outreach with tenants and internal staff to assist in the development of individual security programs. Conducts outreach training with tenants and internal staff on individual security requirements. Conducts audits of employee access levels to ensure they adhere to required federal mandates, while ensuring operational needs are met. Responds to documents, investigates, and mitigates security incidents. Researches information as requested/needed. Assesses Public Information Requests (PIRs) that fall under regulations of sensitive security information, such as airport access control logs.
