    We are seeking to fill one (1) full-time vacancy in the classification of Detention Services Supervisor assigned to the Office of the Sheriff.

    The Detention Services Supervisor plays a key leadership role by overseeing janitorial and maintenance staff who ensure the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the County’s detention facilities. This position coordinates daily work schedules, manages supplies, works directly with vendors, and is responsible for the care and maintenance of the facility. The Detention Services Supervisor reports to the Director of Support Services.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Assigning and inspecting the work of Detention Services employees performing janitorial duties at detention facilities
    • Supervising the procurement, storage, inventory, and distribution of clothing, linens, and hygiene kits and cleaning supplies
    • Preparing and adjusting daily work schedules based on staffing, emergency situations, and facility priorities
    • Monitoring employee performance, preparing written performance evaluations, and engaging in steps of progressive discipline when warranted
    • Conducting training and refresher sessions on equipment use, cleaning methods, and safe work practices
    • Ensuring equipment is operational and communicating facility needs to the Director of Support Services
    • Operating a County vehicle to transport supplies between facilities, as needed

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

    Experience: Three years, or its equivalent, direct supervisory experience in housekeeping and janitorial operations in an institutional or industrial setting or one year of experience in Contra Costa County providing lead direction to janitorial staff.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    Experience and/or training in the following areas, performed within a detention facility, jail, or similar correctional setting, is highly desirable:
    • Janitorial leadership in a correctional environment
    • Staff development, including coaching, hiring, and training
    • Maintaining and improving custodial workflows and procedures
    • Completion of supervisory training programs or certificates
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification
    • Training or certification in hazardous materials handling


    Selection Process

    Application Filing: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process. Training and Experience Evaluation: Candidates must complete the training and experience questionnaire at the time of application filing. Responses provided will be used to assess each candidate's relevant education, training, and experience in relation to the Detention Services Supervisor classification.     DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
