    The Position

    Why Join Contra Costa County?
    The Sterile Processing and Distribution Department is responsible for decontamination and reprocessing of reusable instrumentation for procedural and surgical services as well as the cleaning and distribution of reusable patient care equipment in the hospital and clinic locations. The Sterile Processing Department is instrumental in ensuring patient safety through prevention of exposure to contaminated instrumentation and equipment. The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering excellent employment opportunities for one (1) full-time position.

    What you typically will be responsible for:
    • Supervising, scheduling, assigning, training, and evaluating Sterile Processing and Distribution Technicians
    • Overseeing the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment
    • Resolving equipment failures and ensuring recall processes are followed
    • Identifying and mitigating potential patient safety issues
    • Conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
    • Maintaining control of inventory, supplies, and equipment levels to maximize efficiency in a cost-effective manner

    The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession and maintenance of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.

    Education: Possession of a high school diploma, a G.E.D. equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate.

    Certification: Possession of a current certification in sterile processing techniques issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).

    Applicants must attach a copy of their Sterile Processing certificate .

    Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in a Sterile Processing and Sterilization unit of an acute care hospital performing sterilization functions, one year of which was at a lead or supervisory level.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Basic knowledge of Tracking Systems and Operating Room Scheduling Systems


    Selection Process

    2. Training and Experience Questionnaire: Candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire at the time of filing. The responses to the training and experience questions on the supplemental questionnaire will be used to evaluate candidates r elevant education, training and/or experience as it relates to this classification. (Weighted 100%)
