    The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires , including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild.     The County of Los Angeles Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Assistant Supervising Payroll Clerk vacancies related to the unprecedented disaster.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Assistant Supervising Payroll Clerk.

    DEFINITION:
    Acts as a direct assistant to the supervisor of the payroll section in a large County department or Health Services payroll operation.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
    Positions in this class are distinguished by their responsibility for acting as an assistant supervisor to a higher level payroll supervisor and supervises payroll clerks engaged in processing the department's payroll and/or payroll clerks who are assigned the more complex and difficult projects.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Assists in planning and scheduling the work of the section in order to anticipate peak periods and meet deadlines.
    • Reviews the work of subordinates for adherence to work schedules and established procedures and policies, and evaluates the performance of employees supervised.
    • Trains or assists in the training of new employees in the work of the section.
    • Assists in the preparation of procedure manuals.
    • Assists in the coordination of the work of the payroll section with that of other departmental divisions and sections, the Auditor-Controller, and the Department of Human Resources.
    • Assists in planning, devising and recommending new or revised departmental payroll clerical procedures and in supervising their implementation.
    • Answers correspondence requiring a knowledge of County payroll procedures and policies.
    • Participates in the work of subordinates by performing the more difficult and complex payroll work.


    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    One year's payroll clerical experience in a central payroll office of a County department at the level of Payroll Clerk I* involving the processing and review of the departmental payroll.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    *In County service, Payroll Clerk I is defined as p rocessing the payroll for a segment of a County departmental or Health Services payroll operation.
