  • Job Description

    Our Computer Support Tech I performs i nstalls and configures hardware and software on computer equipment; promote effective use of technology by City Employees; provide technical assistance and operational support with hardware and software: and provide a high level of customer service in response to user requests for assistance. The Computer Support Technician plays a central role in the Information Technology Department's culture of collaboration, coordination and accountability using effective communication and problem-solving skills.

    The salary range for this position is $25.38- $35.54 per hour with a hiring range of $25.38 - $30.46, depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will be available to applicants until Friday, April 11, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

    The successful Computer Support Technician I contributes to the overall mission and values of the City of Loveland's Information Technology Department by providing high quality service, with innovative perspective, aligning City initiatives with service delivery methods as a partner to users.

    Essential Functions:
    • Troubleshoot, research, and apply resolutions to hardware and software issues that arise on computer equipment, mobile devices, peripherals, and basic networking technologies. Clearly communicates with end users through the entire issue resolution process.
    • Provide end user education/training on computer hardware, software and mobile devices when necessary.
    • Use call tracking software and knowledge base systems to clearly document issues, customer interactions, configurations, resolutions, and workarounds.
    • Recommend, purchase, receive, configure, upgrade, and install software and hardware on computer equipment and peripherals.
    • Maintains accurate records of City desktop, laptop, and tablet computer equipment to include purchase, assignment, and disposition.
    • Surplus old equipment, such as printers and PCs.
    • Analyze and stay abreast of technology enhancements that may benefit the City’s fiscal and operational requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with all software copyright and license regulations on City computers and mobile devices.
    • Visit City sites when necessary to resolve support issues.

    Other Job Functions:
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education:
    • High School or GED.

    Experience:
    • Required: 1-year professional work experience supporting, coordinating, and problem-solving PC hardware, Windows-based software and windows operating systems in a networked environment.

    Certifications:
    • Must possess A+ Certification or have ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must possess superior customer service skills, the ability to make sound judgments, be capable of innovative problem solving, and exhibit patience and understanding when dealing with stressful situations.
    • Working knowledge of the current Microsoft Windows operating system.
    • Familiar with computer hardware and software installation techniques and troubleshooting.
    • Basic networking knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
    • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of business.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to manage daily activities for the purpose of achieving maximum productivity.
    • Ability to plan, prioritize, and/or delegate in order to accomplish short and long term goals.
    • Ability to identify potential conflicts that impact commitments.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Frequent: Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
    • Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
    • Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
    • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.

    Working Environment:
    • Frequent: Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
    • Occasional: Exposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
    • Exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
    • Exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
    • Exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
    • Exposure to hazardous conditions that may lead to workplace injury such as working in heights, exposure to fly ash and/or energized electrical equipment.
