The JobThe
Department of Public Health (DPH), Animal Care Division, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of
Animal Care Dispatcher. Under general supervision, Animal Care Dispatchers will receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls related to animal care. This includes reports of stray, aggressive, injured, or nuisance animals, as well as inquiries from the public.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with animal control officers to ensure they have the necessary information to respond to calls effectively and safely.
- Maintaining accurate records of all dispatch activities, including call details, officer responses, and outcomes.
- Directing callers to third-party agencies when appropriate.
- Managing bite investigations, including tracking bite reports, quarantines, health checks, and rabies control protocols.
- Coordinating and tracking rabies specimens sent for laboratory testing.
- Facilitating radio communications with field staff.
- Operating various animal control databases.
- Handling a multiline telephone system when primary call takers are unavailable.
- Supporting joint agency responses for field services.
- Managing after-hours phone messages from the professional answering service, creating service calls, and distributing messages to the appropriate staff.
Applicants must be available to work on
weekends in order to be considered for this opportunity. Those who indicate they are not available on weekends will be disqualified from the selection process.

Conditions of Employment Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.

Minimum RequirementsMust be willing and available to work on weekends. -AND-Must qualify under one of the following options:Option 1: Six (6) months of full-time equivalent experience providing customer service with responsibility for receiving, evaluating, and responding to inquiries or complaints. Experience must be in a public service communications or dispatch center.
Option 2: One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience providing customer service with responsibility for receiving, evaluating, responding to inquiries or complaints and, dispatching field services personnel. Experience must be in a call intake center or dispatch center.
