  • Job Description

    Introduction

    Performs skilled electrician work to install, alter, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade.

    Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $34.89 per hour.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
    • Completion of a recognized four year electrical apprenticeship, or five (5) years of experience as a skilled electrician.
    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Note: A Graduated Driver's License is considered restricted.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following :
    • Maintains, repairs, and installs electrical wiring and equipment up to 480 volts in both commercial and industrial facilities.
    • Lays out, plans, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment such as: high current heaters, sprinkler controls, motor control circuits, alarm systems, public address systems, lighting circuits, heating and air conditioning circuits, photo and electrical eyes, and time clocks.
    • Designs and installs switches and controllers for booster pump circuitry.
    • Installs lighting facilities for park, basketball courts, tennis courts, and baseball fields; provides exterior and interior lighting for buildings and offices.
    • Drives a vehicle to various City buildings to perform assigned tasks.

    • Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving.
    • Bend and stoop repeatedly; good hand/eye coordination.
    • Climb ladders or steps to reach work areas.
    • Work at heights greater than ten (10) feet.
    • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
    • Make precise arm-hand positioning movements (i.e., operates an electric hand drill); lift arms above shoulder level to work in various areas.
    • Exposure to dust, noise, inclement weather, and temperature extremes.
    • Measure distances with a tape measure or other measuring device.
    • Work in small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces, equipment enclosures, closets, etc.
    • Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; climbing elevations.
    • Operate a variety of shop equipment and hand tools used in electrician trade.
    • Lift and move objects weighting up to 50 pounds long distances (more than 20 feet).
    • Perceive the full range of the color spectrum.
    • Operate a two-way radio and a variety of standard office equipment including: computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
    • Operate a motor vehicle to travel to/from various locations.
    • Act as stand-by electrician for responding to emergency calls after normal working hours.
