ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTThe
Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. The Department's mission is to enrich the community through discovery, learning, and play, and strives to maximize the delivery of strategically aligned programs and services to provide the highest value for the community.
The Library Division operates with a $4.4 million budget and 22 full-time employees in fiscal year 2024/2025. The San Rafael Public Library consists of three branches-Downtown, Pickleweed, and Northgate-and is part of the MARINet consortium. Exciting projects include a $3 million modernization of the Downtown branch, set for completion by July 2025, and a $2 million renovation of the Pickleweed branch, with construction beginning in August 2025. Additionally, the City is planning a new, joint
Library and Community Center at Albert Park, while also focusing on operational improvements and championing innovative library programs and services.
THE POSITIONThe Marketing Coordinator plans, coordinates, and implements department marketing and communication events and activities for the Library Division and the Recreation Division of the Library and Recreation Department. You will exercise judgment and initiative in the management of marketing and communication activities for the department.
IDEAL CANDIDATEWe are seeking a creative and strategic communicator with a passion for community engagement. You will lead efforts to develop a cohesive branding campaign, craft compelling social media content, and design marketing materials that effectively promote key initiatives, including the Measure P community center and library project, park capital improvements, and promoting a wide range of library and recreation programs and activities. This role requires a dynamic storyteller who can translate complex projects into clear, engaging messages that resonate with diverse audiences, enhancing public awareness and participation in the City's offerings.

- Participates in developing assigned programs' marketing/promotion strategy; establishes project goals and objectives; meets with department and City staff to identify project needs.
- Participates in the preparation and administration of marketing program budget.
- Supports department outreach and community engagement efforts.
- Develops the overall layout and design of flyers, advertisements, website content, reports, presentations, and other publications which enhance the professional image and branding of department programs and services.
- Administers website content and social media on behalf of the department, division, and City.
- Develops material and content for webpages, interactive media, and multimedia projects.
- Writes, edits, prepares and distributes informational materials, press releases, articles and presentations to inform the community and the organization of assigned department and City issues, services, programs, and events.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAny combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify. A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skill and ability outlined in the
job spec is:
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in marketing, communication, graphic design, or a related field and two years full-time or its equivalent of marketing or communications experience, or
- A combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

This position is a regular position of the City's
SEIU Local 1021 employee group and is eligible to receive benefits including but not limited to:
- MEDICAL | City group health coverage, with the City paying a fixed dollar amount toward the cost of the monthly insurance premium: Employee only: $950.00 | Employee plus one: $1,900.00 | Family: $2,400.00
- DENTAL | Premium fully paid for employee plus eligible dependents.
- VISION | Premium fully paid for employee.
- VACATION LEAVE | 10 days annually, increases after 3 years of service
- SICK LEAVE | 12 days annually
