    The Position

    Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.

    Under direction, incumbents perform a broad range of duties described in the series concept and may assist in program planning by developing goals and objectives, conducting needs assessments, and collecting and reporting information about the program. This is the journey level in the series.

    This Developmental Specialist 3 position is located within Early Childhood Mental Health Services with the Division of Child and Family Services. The Developmental Specialist 3 serves as the Day Treatment Coordinator and lead for the Early Childhood Mental Health Day treatment program, an intensive rehabilitation program for youth who require a higher level of intervention to support their social and emotional development. The coordinator oversees the daily curriculum and program implementation as the clinical lead within the day treatment setting. They address the social and emotional needs of the youth by utilizing conflict and behavioral management techniques, considering the safety and feelings of all. The coordinator directly supervises Child Care Workers and Public Service Interns in the program. The coordinator manages the overall needs of the program, including participation with the Child and Family team who is working with the youth and their family. They are responsible for developing treatment rehabilitation plans with appropriate goals and measurable objectives, under the supervision of their clinical supervisor and in conjunction with the team. When needed, the coordinator will assist the Day Treatment Supervisor in program outreach and program development and design. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field and two years of professional experience providing developmental, special education, intervention, treatment-oriented, child/adult care, and/or instructional guidance services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions; OR one year of experience as a Developmental Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a Bachelor's degree and experience as described above. Special Requirements Some positions must obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education or a comparable certification issued by the Nevada Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C office within three years of appointment to this series or a comparable certification. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.) Some positions must meet federal guidelines for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional designation at the time of appointment. Some positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
