    The Position

    Conservation Aids assist professional staff in a variety of projects involving the conservation and preservation of the State's natural resources.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.     The Biodiversity Division has a single seasonal opening based in the Headquarters Office located in Reno, NV. This position is a 6-month duration over the late spring-summer and potentially early fall months, working up to 1035 hours. The position will perform a variety of duties related to wildlife management, conservation, and wildlife ecology, however, it will primarily focus on wildlife data management, manipulation, and analyses. This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Applicant is responsible for securing housing.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and six months of experience assisting in resource conservation projects or wildlife management projects; OR completion of 15 college credits in wildlife management, biology, or closely related field; OR six months of experience as a Conservation Aid I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions and camping in remote, primitive locations. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
    The following additional questions are part of this Recruitment

    1) Describe your experience collecting wildlife data.

    2) Describe your experience and aptitude working with wildlife data in databases, excel, or other software, and data analysis.

    The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
