POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATIONThe Personal Trainer position is responsible for assisting clients in establishing and reaching their fitness and wellness goals through education, motivation and leadership. This position demonstrates respect, sensitivity and concern for clients' needs in a professional manner, maintains and monitors work schedules as booked, exercises dependability and willingness to work a flexible schedule and upholds program standards of conduct. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks 1. Assists clients in establishing effective fitness and wellness goals and develops the most effective training plan to achieve these goals
- Provides guidance in proper exercise technique and variations of exercises to meet goals
- Motivates clients and serves as a training partner
- Maintains accurate paperwork for client and sessions
- Adjusts schedule as needed to accommodate the needs of the client
2. Offers accurate and up-to-date information and advice on fitness
- Enhances knowledge through continuing education
3. Follows all quality assurance and other policies and procedures of the Fitness Program
- Maintains all required certifications
- Enforces rules and regulations
- Learns required skills to perform fitness assessments
- Maintains a safe and clean exercise environment
4. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Other Duties and Responsibilities 1. Attends staff meetings and required trainings
2. Assists with monitoring client participation
3. Assists with promoting the Personal Training Program as well as other City programs and events
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required :- Must be at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Nationally recognized and accredited personal trainer certification such as ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NASM or NSCA
- First Aid, CPR and AED certification by date of hire
- One (1) year of personal training experience
Preferred :- Bachelor's degree in a fitness or health-related field
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements This position requires a moderate degree of physical stamina and strength, including the ability to:
- Frequently sit, stand and walk through a multi-level facility
- Occasionally squat, bend, kneel, twist, climb, balance and reach over head
- Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
- Frequently use hands and fingers for fine manipulation; occasionally use light and firm grasp
- Frequently see objects up close to perform office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems
- Constantly use hearing to interact with guests and staff and recognize trouble outside of view
- Occasionally use sufficient physical strength, stamina and agility to perform emergency work in various capacities
WORKING CONDITIONS Work is constantly performed indoors with occasional outdoor activity. Indoor and outdoor work is performed in a high public use, multilevel recreation facility where loud noise and multiple events and activities at one time may cause a distraction. Exposure to periods of high activity and stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies.
