    This position is responsible for the administration, management and planning of the University's policies, programs and services within the assigned area(s); work is performed under administration of the President.

    The Vice President of Advancement (VPA) and Chief Development Officer is a strategic leadership role within the Institutional Advancement (IA) office at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of External Relations, this position oversees comprehensive fundraising, community engagement, and program development efforts while directly managing a high-performing team. The VPA will play a pivotal role in advancing the university's mission through innovative programs, including grateful patient and presidential initiatives, and by fostering relationships with major donors, institutional leaders, and the broader community.

    Major/Essential Functions
    Strategic Leadership:
    • Create a team environment, motivating team members and cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Lead with the TTUHSC shared values of kindhearted, integrity, one team, visionary and beyond service.
    • Lead and oversee all IA operations, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic goals.
    • Represent and ensure the President is engaged and effective in fundraising efforts.
    • Develop and implement long-term fundraising strategies, including major campaigns, annual giving programs and planned giving initiatives.
    • Build and manage a high-performing team, providing mentorship, professional development and accountability to ensure achievement of fundraising goals.
    • Act as a champion for TTUHSC IA, establishing strong relationships with partners across the System.
    Fundraising:
    • Serve as the primary architect of major gift cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts, particularly those tied to presidential initiatives.
    • Develop and execute innovative programs designed to engage health care beneficiaries in philanthropic efforts.
    • Partner with the President's leadership team and IA team members to identify and execute high-impact fundraising opportunities.
    • Lead the preparation of major gift proposals, campaign initiatives and donor events tied to institutional priorities.
    • Lead a team that supports all development team members across TTUHSC's campuses.
    • Collaborate with fundraisers to develop and execute strategic plans tailored to donors and communities.
    Program Development and Execution:
    • Establish and oversee programs supporting presidential initiatives to expand donor engagement.
    • Design and implement advisory board initiatives, VIP health care engagements and specialized donor recognition programs with university leaders.
    • Collaborate with university leadership to identify new avenues for philanthropic support and elevate TTUHSC's profile in the higher education and health care sectors.
    Community Engagement:
    • Serve as the President's representative at key events, building relationships across the Lubbock community and beyond.
    • Establish and sustain strategic partnerships with civic organizations, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster institutional goals.
    • Actively participate in local and regional initiatives that promote TTUHSC's mission and amplify its impact on the community.
    Donor Relations:
    • Responsible for major gift portfolio.
    • Cultivate meaningful, long-term relationships with major donors by aligning their philanthropic interests with TTUHSC's strategic priorities.
    • Plan and conduct donor engagements, visits and stewardship activities to ensure sustained support for IA efforts.
    • Collaborate with IA team members to provide exceptional donor experiences, enhancing loyalty and maximizing contributions.
    Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with the President's Office, IA and TTUHSC leadership to coordinate donor activities and ensure strategic alignment.
    • Work closely with clinical and academic leaders to integrate their priorities into fundraising.
    • Provide strategic counsel to university leadership on emerging trends, challenges and opportunities in philanthropy and IA.


    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in appropriate field relating to area of responsibility plus ten (10) years of professional and management experience in similar area. Additional job-related education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
