    The Development Services Department ( DSD ) assists homeowners, business owners, and contractors when they build, demolish, remodel or perform any type of construction to ensure compliance with applicable city and building codes.

    DSD is seeking a temporary Plan Review Specialist for the Customer Experience division. Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned due to business needs.

    Research and reviews urban land development proposals and studies. Provides research information to more senior level planners as requested. Reviews preliminary site plans and prepares comments for zoning, land use, annexation, and variance cases. Meets with members of the public, developers, and other City officials to respond to questions that are relevant to a specific planning area or to planning in general. Provides technical planning assistance to the public, developers, and other city officials. Prepares reports and make presentations at public hearings regarding land use and other planning related initiatives. Reviews subdivision plats and site plans for compliance with local regulations and ordinances. Compiles data/information for reports and cost estimates. Analyzes data to discover patterns and/or discrepancies.

This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.

    • Experience with GIS and ArcGIS.
    • Knowledge of municipal operations, policies, and procedures from previous work experience with a city government(s).
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers.
    • Strong attention to detail with accuracy in technical document review.
    • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret applicable research data and present it in a clear and concise manner.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Performs a variety of technical work involved in the acceptance, review, and processing of all types of development applications. Provides application information including quoting and calculating fees and answering questions related to, applicable codes and regulations. Receives complaints and questions and provides resolution, or refers to appropriate department or staff member for resolution. Assists in the scheduling of and keeping of records of reviews; keeps records of and provides billings of fees; and ensures proper filing and logging of plans and related documents for the permanent record. Assists in the development and maintenance of procedure and policy manuals. Reviews development applications and supporting documents to ensure that all required documents are included in the submittals. Communicates with development professionals, owners, and general contractors to resolve problems. Answers development related questions from customers, City staff, and other divisions. Updates and maintains systems records.

    City Government
