    DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Library, Arts and Culture has 2 (two) immediate openings for the part-time,Page (Non-Career) position. Under direct supervision of the General Librarian, the incumbent(s) will organize and shelve library materials, perform clerical tasks, and may provide simple directions to patrons.

    Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1600 work hours over 12 months and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. The incumbent in this position will typically work 18 to 24 hours per week.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Sorts and shelves books and other library materials, alphabetically and numerically, using the Dewey Decimal system.
    • Checking shelves and other areas for proper filing of books and library materials.
    • Dusts desks and book shelves.
    • Delivering and returning mail, books, and a wide variety of other library materials and equipment.
    • Packs and unpacks books, delivery bags, book cartons, housekeeping supplies, and other materials.
    • Reviews inventory and compares packing slips to purchase orders.
    • Placing and activating RFID tags on library materials.
    • Rearranges library rooms back to order such as moving furniture, displays and other equipment, as needed.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
    • Effectively communicate and follow both verbal and written direction and deal tactfully with the public.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and maneuver book trucks.
    • Willingness to work part-time and irregular schedules including evenings and weekends.
    • A valid driver's license or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel (may be required) .
    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO:
    • Work cooperatively with others, including the public;
    • Stand for long periods of time, walk, stoop, and climb, push/pull/lift up to 40 lbs;
    • Adaptable to work on various assignments and library locations;
    • Read, write, communicate effectively and comprehend directions in English;
    • Provide positive and consistent customer service to a diverse community with a professional demeanor.
