    The Position

    Communications Systems Specialist's perform specialized electronic technician work involving the fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of 24-hour communication systems such as two-way radio and microwave equipment, mountaintop base stations, towers and antennas.

    *** THIS RECRUITMENT IS INTENDED FOR USE DURING THE STATE OF NEVADA HIRING EVENT ON TUESDAY 3/4 AND WEDNESDAY 3/5. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO WERE PRESENT AT THE EVENT, HOWEVER ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND CONSIDERED. *** Under direction, incumbents perform the full range of duties in the series concept and may act as a lead worker for lower-level Communications Systems Specialists and other technical staff. Incumbents assist in performing systems engineering and design, research, and development including frequency availability, path analysis, coverage area charts, site layout, installation methods, interconnection methods, site power sizing, and determination of power source types for each additional site or site to be modified as well as the repair and maintenance of a statewide communications system. This is the journey level in the series.

    Office of the Chief Information Officer - Telecommunications Unit (Las Vegas, NV) The Office of the Chief Information Officer is seeking Communications System Specialist 2 to join our Telecommunications Unit in Las Vegas. This role plays a crucial part in supporting Unified Communications (UC) and managing wire and cabling projects for State agencies. Key Responsibilities would be to provide Unified Communications support while delivering exceptional customer service to State agencies; assist with telecommunications installation projects, including site surveys, cabling, fiber installations, circuit setup, programming, and physical installation of telephony equipment; and coordinate with State agencies and vendor technical teams to ensure the successful deployment of UC equipment, phone lines, and circuits.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in electronics technology or equivalent with course work in algebra, trigonometry, schematics, electronics laboratories, corrective maintenance procedures, and technical writing courses and three years of technical electronics experience, one year of which included installing, maintaining, and repairing communications and ancillary equipment; OR completion of trade school, military or college training to the certificate level in electronics technology which included the theory of communication technology and three years of technical electronics experience, one year of which included installing, maintaining, and repairing communications and ancillary equipment; OR one year of experience as a Communications Systems Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
