    The Position

    Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.

    *** THIS RECRUITMENT IS INTENDED FOR USE DURING THE STATE OF NEVADA HIRING EVENT ON TUESDAY 3/4 AND WEDNESDAY 3/5. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO WERE PRESENT AT THE EVENT, HOWEVER ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND CONSIDERED. *** Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting Administrative Assistant 1 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the following program: Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS).

    PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-007, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30th, 2025. Incumbents perform a range of office administrative tasks, including answering and sorting calls, setting up and keeping files, setting up conference rooms and state cars, typing and processing a variety of documents. Enter information into reports, spreadsheets, and agency databases. Support and backup the front desk during lunch, breaks, and staff absences. Fulfill duties that fall outside of the regular everyday tasks, such as special projects. Recognizes the effects of both internal and external policies on the division. Encourage a safe workplace by performing safety procedures, adhering to all safety rules and guidelines, and reporting any unsafe practices or conditions. Bilingual skills may be required. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers and provides a positive working environment.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clerical experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records, answering telephones, and reviewing forms, documents and other written materials; OR six months of experience as an Administrative Aid in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.

On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.

    Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
