Coordinates and trains employees in activities related to meter reading and water billing and monitors meter reading vendor contractors.
This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769. - Trains Meter Reader/Serviceworkers in the inspection of existing properties under various stages of construction through completion to determine proper charges for water, sewer, storm water, and sanitation billing
- Coordinates the work of assigned staff; prepares, delegates, and reviews work assignments; provides guidance on more complex activities
- Coordinates the meter-reading activities of private contractors to maintain a consistent monthly billing cycle for utility account customers
- Verifies cooling towers and coordinates with Water Billing Office for credits
- Prints meter reading reports and creates various service orders based on meter reading report inquiries
- Troubleshoots problems with meter reading software/hardware; corrects errors concerning service order software/hardware
- Maintains records on completed field service orders
- Conducts inspections and investigations to determine compliance with applicable municipal ordinances; explains and interprets regulations to owners and occupants of residential and commercial establishments
- Explains department billing procedures and requirements to utility customers; resolves internal and external complaints
- Performs special investigations as requested from the Water Billing Office, upper management, City Manager’s Office, and other departments
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
- Skills with using IPad, handheld tools and metering systems.
- Updates customer accounts with water meter information
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENTHigh School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.At least three (3) years of experience working with water meters. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form, and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form ( J-204) to the online application.
