The Job
The Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian is recruiting for a Public Guardian Benefits Assistant* to research, deliver, and retrieve conservatee documents from various financial and government institutions; provide information and assistance in the completion of forms on behalf of conservatee; serve as a resource to file paperwork concerning property and financial assets of conservatee; and coordinate benefits on behalf of conservatee.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, credit check, and/or medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing.
Field Work: Performing duties in the field may be required occasionally.
Work Location: Incumbents will be assigned to work at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) located at 686 E. Mill St. San Bernardino, CA 92415-0647. Office location may change due to space and department operational needs. New office may be located in the East (San Bernardino/Colton) or West (Fontana/Rancho) Valley of San Bernardino County.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option 1
Experience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time experience interviewing and gathering financial, family or personal information from the public over the phone or in-person. Experience must include computer usage; researching, interpreting, and explaining State, Federal, and/or local rules and regulations; and performing independent decision making based upon research and available data/guidance.
-AND-
Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in behavioral/social science or public/business administration. A copy of transcripts indicating completed college coursework must be attached to the online application.
Option 2
Experience : One (1) year of full-time experience interviewing and gathering financial, family or personal information from the public over the phone or in-person. Experience must include computer usage; researching, interpreting, and explaining State, Federal, and/or local rules and regulations; and performing independent decision making based upon research and available data/guidance.
-AND-
Education: Completion of an Associate's degree or higher in any field.
Option 3
Experience : Six (6) months experience in a Government Department of Aging and Adult services environment performing related duties.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience demonstrating strong critical thinking and research skills, collaborating with Federal or State agencies, working with various financial databases or systems, managing a caseload, and the ability to work independently.
