POSITION SUMMARYThe Development Services Department's Community Enhancement and Compliance Division is seeking a Senior Code Compliance Officer. The Senior Code Compliance Officer performs skilled inspections, enforcement and supervisory work to secure compliance with all laws, regulations and ordinances governing land use, minimum housing, signs, zoning, landscaping and related environmental issues. They serve as a senior or lead in performing more complex inspections, enforcement and investigations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Prepares and provides training for new and current employees
- Serves as a field trainer and subject matter expert for code enforcement officers
- Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public
- May be exposed to confidential and privileged information during the course of duties, which should be maintained as such
- Compiles statistics and prepares periodic reports relating to code officer’s performance, operational improvements, and community education
- Conducts reactive (complaints) and proactive (self-initiated) field and waterway inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant parcels according to all state, municipal, zoning, waterways, business tax, building laws and regulations
- Enforces and reviews municipal ordinances on an as needed basis
- Prepares, organizes and maintains case files to present cases and testifies at quasi-judicial hearings
- Makes presentations to local civic, educational, professional, community and neighborhood groups
- Researches and obtains information regarding policies, laws, regulations, business tax receipts, engineering, landscaping, permits and building and zoning requirements
- Researches ownership of various residential, commercial, industrial and parcels or properties within the City
- Attends internal and external meetings and trainings
- Identifies structures that may be unsafe and initiates the appropriate follow-up action
- Compiles and prepares written reports on investigations, maintains all inspection results, prepares correspondence and notices of violations in a computerized case management environment
- May be required to flex their work schedule, work nights and weekends and holidays as necessary to perform assigned responsibilities

JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Graduated from a standardhigh school or vocational school or possess a G.E.D.certificate from a recognized issuing agencyPossess at least three (3) years of paid work experience dealing with the public in any of the following types of work: code enforcement, urban planning, building inspection, construction or other closely related fieldPossess two (2) F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Certifications (one of which must be Fundamentals of Code Enforcement)

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to climb, carry, lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available.
