    DESCRIPTION

    Under supervision of the Communicable Disease Investigation Supervisor (Community Program Specialist IV) in the Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control Division, this position is responsible for implementing programmatic requirements associated with communicable disease control primarily within healthcare facilities and epidemiological functions of the Health Department.

    This position is grant-funded through June 2026 but is expected to be renewed.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Monitors and investigates communicable disease cases of epidemiological concern and interest within healthcare facilities.
    • Conducts disease outbreak response among healthcare facilities.
    • Develop and implement prevention and control strategies.
    • Facilitates communicable disease case reporting with hospitals and other healthcare entities.
    • Conducts literature reviews, assists in the design and preparation of study, surveillance, and field investigation protocols related to multidrug resistant organisms (MDRO), respiratory disease, and other emerging infections.
    • Manages surveillance systems related to healthcare-associated infection (HAI) monitoring.
    • Prepares survey instruments and surveillance forms.
    • Assists in coordination of epidemiological studies of communicable disease and other community issues of public health concern among a variety of healthcare facilities.
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers and public health officials to respond to healthcare acquired infections.
    • Participates in Communicable Disease Control Committee meetings and communicable disease-related trainings and exercises.
    • Provides education and guidance to public health staff, healthcare providers, and the community on prevention of communicable diseases.
    • Enforces public health laws, rules and regulations governing communicable disease control.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

    EDUCATION
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
    EXPERIENCE
    • Four years of experience in a specialized public health setting, such as social work, registered nursing, nutrition, phlebotomy, physician’s assistance, chemistry, clinical technology or public health GIS. (Academic degrees in Public Health, Health Sciences, or a closely related field may be substituted for required experience on a year for year basis.)
    • A valid driver’s license, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel.
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Microbiology, or a closely related field.
    • Experience in communicable disease case investigation, database management systems, and using statistical software.
    • Experience working in healthcare facilities, such as a skilled nursing facilities or acute care hospitals.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of public health practices and principles.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to work with a wide variety of people and populations by consistently exercising tact, good judgement, and proactive problem solving.
    • Ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies as they emerge.
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency in the use of computers, including email, internet, and Office 365 software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlooks, and PowerPoint).
