    Introduction

    About the Position:

    Performs a variety of skilled maintenance, monitoring, and repair work on the City's public swimming pools and multiple park decorative fountains, pumps, motors, and related equipment.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $34.88/hour

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience:
    • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
    • Three years of experience in water pump operation, water treatment and water delivery systems.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.


    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Become a certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator within one year from an industry-recognized institution.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

    • Maintains and repairs equipment and systems at public pools, City owned fountain water features, and related equipment at City parks.
    • Maintains commercial automated water chemistry controllers, pumps, motors, variable frequency drive system operation and programming, all types of filtration systems, chlorinators (on-site chlorine generation and erosion), electrical controls, auto fill systems, commercial automatic vacuum systems, PHfeed systems, indirect fired pool boilers, alarms systems, 75' movable bulkhead, CO2 feeders, Ozone systems, hyper-dissolved oxygen systems, ultraviolet light systems, and other related equipment.
    • Maintains public pools to meet all applicable Maricopa County Health Standards and CDC Aquatic Professional healthy swimming pool water treatment guidelines.
    • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs problems with specialized water treatment and chemical feed systems equipment.
    • Inspects and maintains records on all pools, fountains, and related equipment. Provides design, fabrication, and construction of public pools and fountains.


    Note: This position may require candidates to successfully pass a Respirator/Pulmonary Function Test

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    • Most work is performed outside in a park or swimming pool environment.
    • Exposure to dust, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, pool chemicals, and unpleasant odors.
    • Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving. Work sometimes involves climbing ladders, work in confined spaces; continuous bending and stooping; requires moderate muscular exertion and lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Safely handle commercial chemicals on a regular basis.
    • Work around electricity.
    • Use respiratory protection equipment.
    • Visual and muscular dexterity to: perform mechanical repairs, operate equipment, and two-way radio.
    • Operate a variety of equipment; service and repair pumps and motors.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including: computer, telephone, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
    • Operate a motor vehicle to travel to/from meetings and various locations.
