    The Position

    Disease Control Specialists perform a variety of epidemiological investigations and surveillance activities related to the identification, control and reporting of communicable, infectious and chronic diseases.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO WERE PRESENT AT THE EVENT, HOWEVER ALL APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND CONSIDERED. *** Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

    The Nevada Department of Corrections is recruiting for full-time Disease Control Specialist 3. This position is based at Casa Grande in Las Vegas, NV. Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Nursing, the Disease Control Specialist performs a variety of Epidemiological investigations and surveillance activities related to the identification, control and reporting of communicable, infectious chronic diseases. Conduct epidemiological investigations to determine the cause and source of disease; respond to outbreaks, clusters or possible epidemic threats; recommend appropriate containment or risk reduction measures; provide information regarding treatment. Disseminate health information and provide health education/risk reduction training and technical assistance to the Department. This position requires a high level of independence. Incumbent must be reliable, have excellent communication skills and able to apply critical thinking, assessment, intervention, and evaluation skills and be able to work well as part of a health care team.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, health science, biology, chemistry, physiology, medical technology, psychology, sociology or related field and two years of increasingly responsible experience in conducting epidemiological investigations and surveillance. This experience must have included participation in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating communicable and/or chronic disease prevention programs and activities and preparing grant funding applications; OR one year of experience as a Disease Control Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
