    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and approving temporary traffic control plans for construction contracts, encroachment permits and special events. The successful candidate will need to become an ATTSA certified Traffic Control Supervisor; review and comment on traffic impact studies for developments in District 2 to assist in the determination of required design and mitigations for access into NDOT right-of-way. Perform analysis of intersection control evaluations, road safety audits, corridor studies and other engineering/planning documents to support the decision-making process for proposed operational and safety improvements on District 2 roadways; responsible for reviewing and commenting on civil improvement plans for encroachment permits in NDOT right-of-way; responsible for producing plans and specifications for traffic related district contracts and work with the contractor to administer the contract; review and respond to customer comments regarding traffic operations in District 2. If it is determined that modifications are needed, they will coordinate implementation of improvements. SPECIAL NOTE: Candidates shall be able to demonstrate they are actively working on obtaining Professional Engineering license in the State of Nevada and shall obtain a Professional Engineering license within one year of appointment, unless this timeframe gets modified at the discretion of the appointing authority. If US education evaluation is not attached, degree will not be recognized.

    To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements This position requires travel to remote locations throughout the State, often with overnight stays. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level.
