    Essential Job Functions

    A Grounds Maintenance Worker I is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions:

    • Maintains landscaped areas near public spaces using tools like weed whips, blowers, and hedge trimmers.
    • Mows, edges, and sweeps lawns with riding mowers and other powered equipment.
    • Pots, plants, fertilizes, prunes, sprays, and waters vegetation.
    • Cleans floors, windows, restrooms, and facilities, including waste removal and graffiti cleanup.
    • Prepares and applies pesticides under supervision, using restricted chemicals only with certified oversight.
    • Sharpens, cleans, paints, and cares for powered and hand operated tools and equipment.
    • Prepares athletic grounds by watering and dragging fields.
    • Sets up and dismantles tables and chairs at public facilities, as needed.
    • Assist in demonstrating tasks to Grounds Maintenance Helper program participants as needed.
    • Drives equipment to and from work sites, as needed.


    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    No training or experience is required.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

    Examination content :

    This exam will consist of an evaluation of your experience based on the information you provide in your employment application. The evaluation is weighted 100% of your final score and will assess the following:
    • Experience working as a custodian and/or gardener
    There are no requirements to qualify for this job. However, you must be willing and able to perform job-related tasks and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months.
