    Definition & Distinguishing Characteristics

    The County of Colusa Department of Public Works - Transit Division is seeking a dedicated and reliable Lead Transit Specialist to join their team. This key role involves dispatching transit services, answering public inquiries, and ensuring the smooth operation of the transit system. The Lead Transit Specialist will be responsible for managing communication with drivers, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with scheduling and daily paperwork. In addition, the position includes supervising transit operations in the absence of senior management, supporting the training of new drivers, and overseeing basic vehicle maintenance.     What's this Job All About?
    The Lead Transit Specialist position is essential to the daily operations of Colusa County's transit services. In this role, you will be at the heart of the transit system, ensuring efficient ride dispatching, managing communication between drivers and passengers, and overseeing various administrative tasks. You will be responsible for entering passenger information, preparing daily reports, and assisting in vehicle maintenance. Additionally, you’ll step into a leadership role when senior management is absent, supervising drivers and ensuring smooth operations across the board. This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to interact effectively with the public, and experience in both clerical and transit duties.     Supervision & Examples of Duties

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    Receives general administrative direction from the Transit Manager and Operations Supervisor.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
    In the absence of the Transit Manager and Operations Supervisor, supervise all aspects of the transit system including drivers, maintenance shop and operations of transit vehicles for the transporting of passengers operating under the rules and regulations of the Colusa County Transit Agency, and the Colusa County Department of Public Works.

    Qualifications

    Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience:
    Two years' experience operating a transit vehicle in the Colusa County Transit Agency System and one year of responsible clerical experience, preferably including frequent public contact.

    Training:
    Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

    License or Certificate:
    Possession of a Class A or B California Driver's License with a current Passenger (P) endorsement.

    Current General Public Para-transit Vehicle (GPPV) Certificate.

    DOT Medical Certificate.

    Supplemental Information

    The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
