Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12-month period and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. The Long Beach Airport has immediate openings for eight (8) Maintenance Assistant I positions in the Building Services Division, reporting to the Building Services Supervisor. The Building Services Division operates on the below shift schedule, with an annual shift bid in May of each year.
Sunday - Thursday OR
Tuesday - SaturdayShift 1 : 5:30AM - 2:00PM
Shift 2: 9:00 AM - 5:30PM
Shift 3: 3:30PM - 12:00AM
Most available vacancies are on Shift 3.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIESDuties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Performs a wide variety of custodial duties in an airport environment, to include, but not limited to:
- cleaning of restrooms
- sweeping/vacuuming/shampooing of carpets
- mopping and waxing floors
- washing windows
- cleaning/polishing/dusting customer-facing areas, such as terminal area seating, walls, partitions, equipment, etc.
- disposing of waste and cleaning of waste receptacles
Responds to emergency custodial needs and reports any hazardous conditions or needed repairs;
Utilizes various light to medium hand and power operated cleaning equipment;
May perform routine semi-skilled maintenance duties, which may include the use of light to medium hand and power tools, such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, measuring apparatus, low voltage screwdrivers, hand drills, nail guns, hand sanders, high speed buffers, water blasting of concrete, etc.;
Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE Ability to: - Understand and follow oral and written directions;
- Lift and move medium to heavy objects;
- Use common hand and power tools such as those used in trades, maintenance or custodial work;
- Deal courteously with the public and co-workers;
- Use simple arithmetic;
- Endure long periods of physical labor.
Willingness to: - Work an irregular schedule, including various hours, shifts, weekends, and holidays;
- Work where there are many rules and regulations which are strictly enforced;
- Keep their work area neat, clean, and orderly.
*This position requires access to Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA). To obtain a SIDA badge, applicants must pass a security threat assessment and a fingerprint-based criminal history records check, as well as attend SIDA training. If applicant does not pass the FAA Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mandated background check as required by federal law, they will be removed from the hiring process for this recruitment .
**A valid driver’s license, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel, may be required for some assignments.
